Yes thanks, this worked excellent.
Wow, I didnt think SQL server would like this idea but it came right back
online like it never missed a beat, thanks all, now to back this puppy up
(Franco is beating himself over the head with the tape backup)

backup the .dat files
create new devices using same (or new) names
create a db using the new devices
stop sql server and overwrite the new .dat files with the old ones
start sql and you should have a working db
i pulled it off once so it should work.
