For anyone that has not upgraded to SQL 7.0........
The entire process of upgrading took about 3 hours. Most of the time was
spent preparing for a disaster, which did not happen, but I felt a lot
better having multiple backups, and etc. While the server was down, I also
upgraded from 256mb to 512mb of memory and installed a Intel PRO/100 Server
adapter. I am sure the 512mb of ram helps and I know the Server adapter
works better as my remote tape back has a better throughput.
The end results is that a consolidation of 670,000 records went from taking
20+ hours to taking a little over 2 hours. And such things as Update Calls
now takes no more than 1-2 minutes instead of 1-2 hours.
So the short of it is, if you have not upgraded to 7.0 then you should do it
ASAP!!
